I love wine. I’m not one of those fussy people who can only drink red, or white or champagne. All I ask is that it be a drinkable wine – and not some gut rot that’s got more antiseptic properties than anything else.
But there’s a problem. How do you know what it’s going to taste like without trying it?
Granted you can rely on the points system and look to Robert Parker andfor advice. When I lived in Vancouver I used to get invited to a neighbour’s place for parties and Anthony would usually be there with a case of wines to try and plenty of suggestions. Unfortunately those days are over now that I’m in Calgary.
But there is one option that’s open to the public – providing you’re of drinking age –- and it’s on this weekend.
But there’s a problem. All tickets for Friday night and Saturday night are sold out. There is only availability for Saturday afternoon from 2 – 5 pm.
Fortunately there is also a solution.
I have two tickets to give away for Saturday afternoon – as long as you’re 18 or over. All you have to do is leave a comment on my blog and tell me what your favourite wine is.
What you get with your $75 ticket to Winefest Calgary is a Riedel wine glass, all the hors d’oeuvres you can eat and loads of wines from around the world to sample. And then if you like them you can buy them onsite – unless of course they’ve sold out.

Some of the wineries that will be in appearance include the following:
19 Crimes from Australia Bodegas Escorihuela 1884 from Argentina Salton Intenso from Brazil St. Supery from the US Dirty Laundry from Canada Taylor Fladgate Partnership from Portugal Kim Crawford from New Zealand Huang Zhong Huang from China Errazuriz from Chile Ruffino from Italy Domaine La Berangeraie from FranceThis is just a sampling of the 70 wineries that will be represented.
There are some great door prizes as well including tickets to Sunshine Village and a Sobey’s Liquor Wine Basket.
If you’re into great wine and delicious food and you’ve got a free Saturday why not head over to Stampede Park BMO Center and discover some new wines.
Have you been to Winefest Calgary before?
*** To be eligible to win please leave a comment by 4 pm February 20th, 2014. A winner will be chosen randomly and notified by email.***
